Professor David Taylor became a Visiting Professor at the School in 1996. In 2001, he took up the post of Professor of Pharmaceutical and Public Health Policy.

He has acknowledged expertise Health Policy Analysis and Development, Pharmaceutical Sector Policy, Primary Care Development, Mental Health Care Development, Health Economics and Sociology, Pharmaceutical Service User Support and Empowerment, Prevention and Treatment of Learning Disabilities, Health Systems Quality Management, Political and Media Communications.

He previously held positions in the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, the King’s Fund and the Audit Commission, and served as Chairman of a Family Health Services Authority in the early 1990s. Professor Taylor is currently a trustee of the Patients Association, and a member of the Department of Health’s Medicines Management Advisory Group.

Professor Taylor’s main research interests are in health and health care improvement, and the pharmaceutical industry in society. Professor Taylor’s research interests also include the impact of economic and quality management theory on health care policy and delivery, the changing nature of professionalism in the health sector, and issues relating to science policy and the ethical responsibilities of pharmaceutical companies in relation to national and global health problems. He is the author of many publications.
